My Seattle suburbs sister, Katie, should have her own cable network show about discovering treasure in thrift stores.
One of her secrets to finding it in abundance is by living in this area. And she’s been on the treasure hunt for at least 24 years. She also has an eye for artful placement of those treasures.
Her house and yard should be in home and garden magazines.
She should at least have her own blog.
My niece’s bedroom has been converted into a treasure chest of its own since she left for college.
Besides rejuvenated furniture and accessories rescued from abandonment, it’s a display of genuine vintage heirlooms. Afghans, quilts, ribbon embroidery, cross stitch, drawings, dolls, paper cut art. Gifts from sisters, mothers and grandmothers–the women in the lives of my sister and her daughter.
And, the room has a view like this.
And another view like this. Did I mention my sister’s a Master Gardener?
It’s not just the views inside and out that give this room a feeling of peace and inspiration. It’s knowing the women behind all this creativity and what they mean to me.
They are true life vintage.
